Getting Your Productivity Back

by Rose Filice

Some simple strategies to get motivated, prioritize tasks and boost productivity in these last few months of winter.

1

Nix the notifications:

One of the best strategies for staying focused and on task is also one of the easiest: turn off email and text notifications. Doug Heidebrecht, principal of Sun Management Self Management, suggests taking it one step further: “Don’t check work email after a certain time each evening. People find that they’re more present, their sense of balance increases and they sleep better.”

2

Fuel up:

Rest, hydration and nutrition are important. If you can, take a 20-minute power nap mid-afternoon to recharge your brain if you haven’t slept well the night before. Eat healthy snacks like nuts and veggies throughout the day and limit your caffeine intake after noon to promote a good night’s sleep.

3

Move:

Take quick walk breaks every 30 minutes, and try to take a longer walk after a lengthy work session to get your blood circulating, muscles working and revive your energy.

MEETINGS + EVENTS

Transitions
The annual Meetings Industry Euchre Tournament (MIET) will now be hosted by CanSPEP. The popular event, now in its seventh year, raises money for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and cancer research. CanSPEP and MIET signed a memorandum of understanding that supports the integrity of the event. The MIET will take place at Beanfield Centre on Thursday April 26, 2018.

CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT

Trends for 2018
Corporate travel managers should concentrate on traveller experience this year, rather than on costs, according to the Global Business Travel Forecast 2018. Air, hotel and car rental costs are only expected to increase marginally. Business travel is expected to grow for Europe and China. The forecast says that global instability and protectionist policies by some governments are creating uncertainty in business markets.

INCENTIVES + REWARDS

Where to Next
Metracon Travel is running a Where to Next? contest with a chance to win a trip for two to NYC and a two-night stay at the boutique Ace Hotel New York. All you have to do is fill out a form that asks for a favourite destination for a reward or incentive trip, inspiring teambuilding activities or relate an exciting adventure, entertainment or culinary experience. The contest is open until March 12, 2018.
