A just released study by Carlson Wagonlit Travel found regional differences in business travellers around the globe in relation to safety and security.

European travellers were relatively carefree while on the road for business, as only 37 per cent were concerned about safety, while nearly half (47 per cent) of North Americans were. Asia Pacific travellers worried the most at 56 per cent.

Surprisingly, terrorism ranked fifth among safety concerns. Travellers surveyed were more afraid of “forgetting something needed for work” or “losing something important,” than the threat of an attack.

Among the 1,900 travellers who completed the survey, more than two-thirds (67 per cent) believe that travel is safer today, as they have more tools at hand to mitigate their safety concerns. More than two-thirds buy travel insurance, and seven out of ten use at least one of their employer’s security protocols such as traveller tracking.

Asia Pacific travellers are more likely to sign up for notifications of real-time risks, they also research local medical or security service providers before they set out.

Digital Dial-In
Realizing early on that online digital events would be a winning formula to reach wider audiences and drive sponsorship revenue, Meetings + Conventions Calgary (MCC) partnered with the Digital Experience Institute to offer a Digital Event Strategist (DES) program. Since 2014, MCC has sponsored over 150 people to obtain the certification. Join MCC on November 15 for the Digital Experience Institute’s Digital Summit, a day of tips, tricks and best practices for implementing digital events. The event counts as five hours of clock time for CMP and DES certification.
