The days of sending an employee into retirement with a big banquet and a gold watch on their wrist are gone. While companies still want to recognize people for their years of service, there is no one-size-fits-all celebration. Camille Jocsak, president of Planned 2 Perfection Limited, an event planning company based in Mississauga, has some tips to create the perfect send-off.
1 |
Hone the Guest List:
A party for an executive will often include clients, global partners and other executives. If the event is for someone in management or support staff, it may include that person’s department and their family, says Jocsak. |
|
2 |
Make it Personal:
Learning the celebrant’s interests is key. If the company prefers to present a gift, talk to coworkers. “We’ve done a $1,000 gift certificate to Bass Pro Shops for an executive who loved to hunt and fish.” |
|
3 |
Choose Quality over Quantity:
Companies are scaling back on the size of an event and focusing more on the quality of the party, according to Jocsak. For support staff, an on-site barbecue lunch, sandwiches and a cake served in the boardroom or a department lunch at a restaurant are good options. For an executive, dinner in a restaurant’s private dining room strikes the right tone. |

MEETINGS + EVENTS
Meetings Forecast 2017
The latest edition of Meetings Outlook Summer 2017 says the current seller’s market is here to stay—well into 2018. There are some signs of the slowing business environment, with growth predictions being scaled back to 1.6% from 3% last quarter. The report also says that the ongoing travel ban uncertainty has moved a number of events from the US to Canada.
CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT
Treadmill Power
Travellers tired of the endless waiting times at airports can relieve some of their frustrations at a full-service gym at Roam Fitness at Baltimore-Washington International Airport. The company plans to have 20 gyms worldwide in five years and is hot after the millennial market, who want to maintain their fitness routines on the road.
