Corporate Travel Management
Incentives & Rewards

Planners take many considerations into account when it comes to choosing a venue, such as area location, physical space and ambience to name just a few. We’ve added another dimension to the mix—when you rent these venues, proceeds from events are used to support ongoing good works and charity.

1

Inner Peace

A beautiful blend of historic and contemporary architecture, the St. James Cathedral Centre is conveniently located in the vibrant St. Lawrence neighbourhood, in Toronto. Snell Hall is a glass enclosed, light-filled function room that overlooks the ornate St. James Cathedral and adjoining park. The Deanery on the third floor is actually the living quarters for the Dean of the Anglican Church in Canada. The new Dean will take up residence in October 2016, so you only have a few months left to book the open concept space which includes a reception area for up to 56 people, a terrace and an intimate courtyard. All proceeds from St. James Cathedral Centre go to support St. James.

2

Walk on the Wild Side

From perky penguins to sleek jungle cats, the Calgary Zoo has been delighting guests for over 80 years. At the eastern edge of the city, near the Inglewood and East Village neighbourhoods, the zoo has various event venues for groups from the Enmax Conservatory building to Safari Lodge. Money from venue rental is used to fund world-renowned researchers at the Calgary Zoo in species recovery and re-introduction. Funds are also used to care for the zoo’s animal residents. The prestigious science journal Nature rates the Calgary Zoo as one of the top five zoos in the world for conservation research.

3

A New Vision

Looking for a cool incentive giveaway for a group? Why not consider REVO sunglasses—the eyewear that protects the vision of U2 frontman Bono. For each pair of REVO sunglasses sold, the company donates $10 to prevent vision impairment and blindness. Revo, Bono and The Brien Holden Vision Institute are committed to help more than five million children and adults by 2020.

MEETINGS + EVENTS

Name Game
The International Special Events Society (ISES) will now be known as the International Live Events Association, ILEA. The global name change has been evolving across a three-year period for the group. In other association news, the BEICC needs meeting and event planners to input information to refresh the data on the Canadian Economic Impact Survey 4.0. The survey takes about 30 minutes to complete and your input is essential for a complete picture of the economic impact of business events in Canada.

CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT

Terror and Travel
In the recently released study by Business Traveller Magazine, the Association of Corporate Travel Executives and American Express Business Travel focus on the effect of terrorism on a business traveller’s behaviour and the perception of corporate travel managers. While there have been destinations that have been unsafe for years, recent events have erupted in safe, stable countries. The study looks at terrorism’s effect on travel, destination concerns, psychological effects and traveller tracking and communication. To read the full study, click here.
