Planners no doubt are already busy with files for their big events in 2016. We've gathered some new intel that you may want to integrate into the mix.

Quick Step:

Thinking on your feet takes on new meaning if you incorporate netwalking in your next meeting. Think networking with walking instead of standing around a ballroom with a canapé. This company is on a mission to get people to walk even when conducting meetings to spark ideas, create discussion and take in the surrounding community at the same time. Founder Jessica Tunon says netwalkers feel open to communicate because walking helps break down barriers and encourages camaraderie. Netwalking can be used for speakers to actively engage with an audience, encourage event attendees to interact and increase social networks.

Uber Convenient:

Popular rideshare company Uber is now offering UberEVENTS as an option that lets event organizers purchase rides for guests, and only pay for what they use. Planners create an event with Uber and for a processing fee they can set up discounted or fully paid ride passes for attendees. Guests will receive passes or codes in an email and then use the Uber app to get their ride. The planner gets to set the value of the ride or how much they want to discount each ride. The service was rolled out in New York City last month.

It's a Win:

Halifax Convention Centre (HCC) was awarded the best marketing award at the International Congress and Convention Association's annual congress. The award highlighted the bold, simple and fun marketing campaign that encouraged planners to interact with centre staff and offer insight on how they use a convention centre. Mailings with pieces of carpet, forks and even types of hand soaps were sent to planners to evaluate. "Their opinion is important to us, this is all part of building our centre, and we want planners to be a part of it," says Erin Esiyok-Prime, manager, marketing and communications for Trade Centre Limited. The HCC, opening in 2017, already has 30 events booked.

MEETINGS + EVENTS
It's a First
SPiN:Senior Planners Industry Network has announced free membership dues for all qualified members until the end of 2016. The association will also waive registration fees for all member events and activities in 2016 including the annual conference, live education and online roundtables. SPiN founder Shawna Suckow, CMP says "resources are limited and we don't want the cost of membership to be the reason why a senior-level planner does not engage with our peer-to-peer community experience." SPiN is for senior planners who have been in the event industry for a minimum of 10 years. SPiN has two Canadian branches, in Toronto and Ottawa.

CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT
AirBnB Business Ready
Digital accommodations sharing company AirBnB has created a new tool for owners who want to target business traveller guests, called business travel ready. Hosts that display this badge on their listing are guaranteeing Wi-Fi, a designated workspace, an iron and a hair dryer and a strict policy when it comes to cancellations—meaning hosts can't cancel less than seven days before a stay. There is also a new feature called Host Assist for easy key management, and travellers have a 24-hour check-in time for the listing.

INCENTIVES + REWARDS

The Tourist Office of Spain is planning a virtual event in December to showcase multiple regions and suppliers, and to explain how recent changes to VAT (value added tax) legislation may save your client serious cash by meeting in Spain. Live webinars, live chat and Skype will be utilized during this event that will run the first three days of December.
