Hamilton: Take a look at us now!

You’ve heard the buzz—now it’s time to give this dynamic city a fresh look. A bustling metropolis between Toronto and Niagara Falls, Hamilton, Ont., has the resources to wow your delegates and ensure successful gatherings with an exciting downtown revitalization project, world-class conference and sporting venues and one-of-a-kind event spaces and attractions.

A $500-million development plan by Hamilton Urban Precinct Entertainment Group (HUPEG), expected to commence in early 2023, will bring a renewed vitality to the downtown cultural and entertainment district, with significant renovations to the FirstOntario Centre (formerly Copps Coliseum), FirstOntario Concert Hall and Hamilton Convention Centre. A premier 17,500-seat multipurpose arena, FirstOntario Centre can host a variety of events, from live stage and professional and amateur sporting events to conventions and consumer trade shows, offering 90,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space.

Carmen’s Group, a leading hospitality and entertainment brand in Hamilton, owns and operates many of the city’s most celebrated venues, including Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmen’s, C Hotel by Carmen’s, BWP Collection and Carmen’s Banquet Centre. “Our various meeting and convention facilities include personalized service experiences and customized solutions for every organizer, in facilities that provide world-class cuisine and outstanding amenities,” says PJ Mercanti, HUPEG president and CEO of Carmen’s Group. “We also offer indoor and outdoor spaces, with onsite audiovisual capabilities that allow for hybrid and virtual events.”

Hamilton Convention Centre by Carmen’s is the city’s largest event venue, with 80,000 sq. ft. of flexible space that includes two distinct trade-show floors, 22 meeting rooms, a terrace with stunning skyline views and endless possibilities for gatherings of up to 2,000. Its premier downtown location is walking distance to world-class hotels and countless dining and entertainment options.

With the downtown core bursting with new and expanded spaces to host your group, more than 1,500 hotel rooms are available throughout the city, with an additional 400 being added in the coming years. Conference attendees, sports teams, officials and fans will feel right at home, while onsite amenities will guarantee that they’re ready for that big game or important meeting. In the city’s west end, world-renowned McMaster University provides budget-conscious accommodation options (May to October 1,000 bed hotel and convention operation) with three hotel-quality suites available, as well as a luxurious executive-style home adjacent to campus for leadership meetings, retreats and events. McMaster’s world-class training facilities also make it an ideal athletes’ village for sporting events. Other post-secondary institutions offering accommodations are Mohawk College and Redeemer University College.

On the Hamilton ‘mountain,’ the part of the city that sits atop the Niagara Escarpment, the C Hotel by Carmen’s, BWP Collection offers unparalleled luxury, starting with 52 elegant rooms and suites. “Families and sports groups will appreciate the large hotel rooms that allow for guest mingling, as well as many nature trails and gorgeous waterfalls that are walking distance from our many venues,” says Mercanti. This boutique hotel also boasts a stunning ballroom, indoor pool and fitness centre. Baci Ristorante serves up modern Italian fare and a rooftop event space opens to an outdoor patio with sweeping views of the city.

Adjacent to the hotel is Carmen’s Banquet Centre, and events here are unsurpassed, whether you are hosting a conference for 100, or a corporate gala for 1,100. The venue offers three multipurpose ballrooms, custom menus and an elegant two-storey foyer that is ideal for cocktail receptions.

In the heart of the downtown business district, guests can expect an elevated experience at the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel. With its modern guestrooms and luxurious suites, says Joseph Bahr, director of sales and marketing, the hotel is known for hosting visiting dignitaries, celebs and sports teams alike, and offers more than 20,000 sq. ft. of event space, 18 meeting rooms and an exclusive Club Lounge with sweeping harbour views. The Sheraton is directly connected to the Hamilton Convention Centre and the FirstOntario Centre, and is just steps away from some of the city’s premiere attractions, including the Art Gallery of Hamilton and the Jackson Square indoor shopping mall and entertainment complex.

Conveniently located within walking distance to the Hamilton Convention Centre and entertainment venues, the all-suite Staybridge Suites Hamilton-Downtown is ideal for individual meeting attendees or whole families for a much needed getaway. Janice DeSilva-Pearcey, director of sales, says, “Not only can we host your stay at our property, we can also host smaller scale events in our 5,000 sq. ft. of flexible space and you can choose from our All Day Meeting Packages.” If attendees have some down time, they can enjoy the hotel’s unique amenities, such as the large outdoor licensed patio where they can mingle with colleagues, or venture out to the arts, entertainment and culinary districts.

Homewood Suites by Hilton Hamilton in the downtown core boasts 182 spacious, modern and well-equipped suites, says Donna Dydynski, director of sales. With state-of-the-art conference facilities, including 10,000 sq. ft. of total event space and 14 individual meeting rooms, small-scale gatherings have a big impact. Guests will want to stroll through the vibrant surrounding neighbourhoods, taking in the extraordinary street art while stopping at the restaurants, cafés and bars that are bolstering the city’s red-hot culinary scene; make it dinner and show with a world-class performance at Theatre Aquarius.

Centrally located on the mountain, the Courtyard by Marriott Hamilton is ready to wow at your next event, says Rebecca Barnes, director of sales. With capacity for 200, the well-equipped indoor event space of 4,343 sq. ft. is only rivalled by the stunning 4,000 sq. ft. of outdoor event space—a garden courtyard oasis with a waterfall, pond and gazebo that can accommodate 150 guests. Many options for teambuilding fun are nearby, including the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, where groups can take a flight on a vintage aircraft, and the Ninja Warrior training facility, The Warrior Factory™ Hamilton.
