Meeting Planners Against Human Trafficking reach another milestone with industry-driven initiative

The Toronto-based Meeting Professionals Against Human Trafficking (MPAHT) reached another milestone in its efforts to raise awareness amongst Canadian meeting planners.

Sandy Biback, coordinator of the group, says MPAHT became a signatory to The Code on July 30th. The Code, short for The Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism, is an industry-driven initiative to provide awareness, tools and support to combat the sexual exploitation of children.

“It was important for us to do this,” says Biback, “as it gives us the opportunity to do established training and input into research.” MPAHT has recently reached an agreement with the SHIVA Foundation that allows the group to access their online training for hotels.

Next steps for the group include working on a clause that planners could build into their RFP contracts, get a charitable number from the government so the group can fundraise and build resources and facilitate more training sessions. mpaht.com
