Capella Marigot Bay Resort and Marina
Luxury dominates at this revamped retreat in St. Lucia
By Doug Wallace
A new harbour haven is ready to lure even more upscale travellers to St. Lucia. After a multi-million dollar redesign of what was until last year the Discovery at Marigot, this new luxury hideaway will not just elevate the marina experience but reinvent it. With 124 rooms and suites, this slick retreat is cozy and comfortable, with more than its fair share of incentive travel essentials.
The Grill at 14*61 highlights Lucian cuisine, complete with a tasting menu and “show kitchen,” bringing guests that much closer to the action. Resort director of sales and marketing Jason Kycek is particularly excited about the resort’s Rum Cave. “Guests can sample over 200 rums from around the world and take a rum-tasting class with our Rum Maestro, which includes the making of your own personalized bottle of rum,” he says.
Expect a marina-chic crowd at Auriga Spa, where some of the signature treatments are particularly inventive. What about a traditional massage that employs warm bamboo sticks and a potion of nutmeg, coconut oil, frankincense and rum made by local elders? The Volcano Energy Therapy taps the St. Lucian volcano La Soufrière to enhance acupressure techniques with sulphur mud.
In terms of lounge-ability, there are numerous nooks and crannies, plus three pools. A ferry whisks guests to Labas Beach just one minute away, so beach-front access is never an issue. For those planning to do some work (and bringing the workmates) there is 1,600 sq. ft. of meeting space, something you might not expect in a place this cozy. You will very likely be too busy off-site, however, tempted by rainforest hikes, superb diving and day cruises. Atlanta-based Capella is also investing in the revamping of the Marina Village to include more local businesses and artisans.
In terms of pampering, expect flexible check in and out times, and tailor made private services—butlers, nannies, chefs and a team of personal assistants. The only place you may need to lift a finger is in the Cigar Bar. The fact that Marigot Bay has stood in as a backdrop for more than a few Hollywood movies is a testament to its beauty. Cue the sunset.
