After the lovely mid-week break for Canada Day, it just seems appropriate that we should celebrate some great Canadian industry news. |
|
Tourism Dollars:
The federal government has loosened the purse strings and is investing $30 million over three years to attract more American visitors to Canadian destinations. The money will be used for the Connecting America tourism campaign, led by the Canadian Tourism Commission to attract an additional 680,000 US visitors by 2018. The US is Canada's largest inbound tourism market, welcoming about 11.5 million Americans annually, although this number is down 24 per cent from a decade ago. |

WEC 2019:
After a nine-year absence the MPI World Education Congress (WEC) will be returning to Canada in 2019. Toronto will be the host city for the expected 2,500 meeting planner delegates from around the globe. The five-day conference includes education, awards, multiple receptions and fundraisers for the MPI Foundation. |

We're number #1:
For the fourth straight year, Montreal ranks first in the Americas as a destination for international events, ahead of New York, Washington and Buenos Aires. In addition to this great news, the Palais des congrès de Montreal was the recipient of the AIPC Gold Quality Standards certification, the highest in the convention industry. |

CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT
Technology Trends and Managed Travel
The latest research from CWT Travel Management says mobile technology, customization and the sharing economy are three of the main tech tools that are changing the way business is done. Key developments include seamless multichannel access across all devices, wearable technologies and online interaction between meeting attendees. The barriers for the adoption of Uber and Airbnb are crumbling as these brands adapt their product for the managed travel market. Big Data, social media and IATA's new distribution capability for airline inventory help to customize traveller experience while supporting program objectives.
