InterContinental Toronto Centre Unveils Remodeled Presidential Suite

Toronto—InterContinental Toronto Centre has unveiled its newly renovated Presidential Suite. The famed $5,000-per-night suite — which has hosted famous politicians, dignitaries and celebrities — has been upgraded with sleek decor and modern technology.

Located on the 18th floor, the 2,200-sq.-ft. suite includes a living and dining area with a built-in kitchenette, a master bedroom with a lavish bathroom and tub and a second bedroom with an en suite. The suite also includes a media room with full surround sound and Amazon Alexa in the bedroom to help guests stay connected.

In addition, the Presidential Suite boasts a wraparound terrace, affording a south-east/west view of the downtown cityscape and waterfront. Palais des congrès de Montréal posts new attendance record with 909,000 event participants

Montréal—The Palais des congrès de Montréal’s bold new vision set the tone for a year packed with events and innovation. Venue operations between April 1, 2018 and March 31, 2019 generated economic spinoffs estimated at more than $215,000,000 for Montréal and the province of Québec—a remarkable 11% gain on the annual average recorded since the facility’s expansion in 2002. Over the course of the fiscal year, 353 events brought in a record 909,000 attendees, who booked more than 142,000 hotel nights in Greater Montréal. This new attendance record is 2.8% higher than the previous one, while the number of hotel nights number is a 17.4% increase over last year.

The Palais’s social and environmental commitments were at the forefront this past fiscal year, and promise to have a noteworthy impact on both the Palais and, more importantly, the planet. Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place Achieves LEED® Platinum certification

Toronto, ON—Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) announced that Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place has been awarded LEED® EB:O&M Platinum Certification(Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance). Enercare Centre is the first convention centre in Ontario to receive this distinction by the CaGBC.

The Leadership in Energy an Environmental Design (LEED®) is an internationally recognized rating system for evaluating the sustainability of building design, construction and operations. LEED® certified buildings incorporate leading-edge features that protect the environment and promote healthy work and living conditions.

As the largest convention centre in Canada, Enercare Centre’s achievement is substantial and continues to present the venue and the entire site of Exhibition Place as an industry leader in environmental and sustainability practices through our GREENSmart Program. Enercare Centre has set a higher standard with high-performance policies and technologies that use resources more efficiently and encourage sustainable action from visitors and the city.

A few of the significant achievements to reach LEED® Platinum certification includes:

  • Demonstrated energy performance that is 30% better than the national average.
  • Reduced indoor potable water consumption from the baseline by 39% through installation of low-flush water fixtures, saving an estimated 1.1 million gallons per year.
  • Conducted a waste stream audit of all waste leaving the building, identifying that 69% of all waste generated throughout the building and associated grounds is diverted from landfills.
  • 53% of ongoing consumables, 98% of durable goods, and 93% of facility construction and renovation materials were diverted from landfills.
  • Reduced reflection of heat into the atmosphere by using highly reflective roofing materials and installing vegetated roof areas.
  • Over 75% of all building occupants and visitors use sustainable modes of transportation, including public transit, walking, bicycling, or carpooling, to arrive at the Enercare Centre
  • HVAC&R systems do not use CFC-based refrigerants.
  • Performed full-building commissioning and implemented an ongoing commissioning plan, ensuring proper installation and functioning of all building systems.
  • All materials facility alterations and addition purchases were made in compliance with LEED sustainability standards.
  • Consistently use highly effective filtration media (MERV 13) to ensure the best indoor air quality.
  • Implemented Indoor Air Quality Management Plans during alterations and renovations to ensure health and safety of construction employees as well as all building occupants.

More flights, more often with WestJet's winter schedule

Frequency increases to popular domestic, transborder and international destinations from airline's hubs in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto

Seasonal service to Paris and Nashville from Calgary resumes early in March 2020

Calgary/CNW/—As part of its 2019/2020 seasonal winter schedule, today WestJet announced increased frequency and improved connectivity from its hubs to more destinations across its network.

WestJet's seasonal schedule for winter 2019/2020 features more flights from Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto to domestic, transborder, international and sun destinations and includes WestJet's seasonal service to both Paris and Nashville from Calgary, commencing earlier than past years on March 12 (Paris) and March 16 (Nashville). WestJet's popular daily summer seasonal service between Calgary and Portland (PDX) will also extend through winter. 

"By executing on our hub strategy, we're improving schedules not only for guests in Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto, but also building thousands of new connections for guests across the country," said Arved von zur Muehlen, WestJet Chief Commercial Officer. "This winter Canadians have more flights and better access to popular leisure and business destinations and will benefit from schedule improvements, frequency increases and improved connectivity across our growing global network."

For winter, WestJet's 787-9 Dreamliner will also fly between Calgary and Maui and as previously announced, the airline's new weekly non-stop service between Victoria International Airport (YYJ) and Los Cabos Mexico International Airport (SJD) begins November 5, 2019 and service between Calgary and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ) commences on December 14, 2019.

IRF Announces Search for Next Generation of Leadership

The Incentive Research Foundation, the incentive industry's largest and most prolific foundation, announces its search for the next generation of presidential leadership. Melissa Van Dyke, current President, will leave her position as IRF President on August 2, 2019, to continue her career in the incentives industry in a new capacity.

"It is with both excitement and sadness that we launch this search for the next iteration of IRF leadership,” said Mike May, current Chairman of the IRF Trustees and President of Brightspot Incentives & Events. "The IRF is in an unprecedentedly strong position, coming off its most successful Invitational ever, maintaining a strong research engine, and enjoying a deep bench of tenured trustees and staff." 

The IRF has launched its search for an inspirational leader with deep experience in the incentives, rewards, meetings, or hospitality industry. The search committee seeks a tenured executive who will be able to establish a strong standing in the incentives industry and influence broad industry support of the IRF’s mission. Candidates should possess strategic, operational, and fundraising experience and have extensive knowledge of methods to develop, conduct and communicate cutting-edge research.
