This month we peek inside a few coveted gift bags with a Canadian edge, and some of the best goodies in them. |

Looking good, Juno. What better place to look for “Can Con” than at the Junos, the who’s who awards show of the Canadian music scene, held earlier this year in Vancouver. “We had many companies vying to be included in the gift bag, which is given to the award presenters, performers, and attending VIPs and celebrities,” says Kirsti Stephenson, director of special events and PR for Toronto's Mint Agency, who worked on creation of the 2009 Juno Awards gift bag for Insight Productions. "Canadian companies, in particular, and suppliers from the host city were absolutely top of mind." Planners came up with a luscious cross section of products in beauty, fashion, lifestyle/ housewares as well as locally produced gourmet foods. Take a look inside the bag! |

The “100 mile” gift diet. Inspired by the “go local” movement, Vancouver’s Gabrielle Durning, founder of the The Uptown GiftBox Company, is on a mission to source luxury homespun gifts that she’s bestowed on behalf of corporate clients and Hollywood North visitors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ben Affleck. “We like to incorporate a custom story card that talks about the item, how it came to life. For a corporate client to receive something and know it was specifically created for them can be truly meaningful,” says Durning. |

Put the “boot” to it. Stylish travel bags are always appreciated by the jet-set crowd, and this unique Canadian boot bag by Toronto-based Red Scarf Equestrian was recently showcased at the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix. “We had a fantastic two weeks. Lots of celebrities and hoopla,” says Joanna Wiseberg, who also heads Red Scarf Promotions. “Jensen Button, the winner of the F1 Race, loved our black leather boot bag so much that my rep gave it to him.” Made in Canada in eco Italian leather, it can be customized in any type of fabric or leather, in a range of price points, for corporate use. |

CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT
Air Canada takes a pass on Corporate Pass
After three years promoting its pre-paid, Corporate Pass program as a way for travel managers to get preferred rates, Air Canada is ending this ticketing option. The month is the last chance to buy Corporate Passes, valid for one year if ordered by June 23 (reporting functions will be supported until July 31, 2010). These Passes allowed purchase of multiple one-way flights that could be used by any of up to 300 employees to fly anytime. In future, the company will refine its Flight Pass for Business products, says spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick. These allow purchase of 30 or 100 flight credits at a time for travel in specific zones, for use by up to 25 employees. |

INCENTIVES + MEETINGS
Suppliers unite to gain meetings portfolio
Two global travel and reward giants – and occasional rivals -- are pooling resources to try and cover every base in the meetings, business events and incentive travel marketplace. This month, at respective headquarters in New York and St. Louis, American Express Business Travel and Maritz Travel announced plans for what they are calling a “strategic alliance” in a bid to gain a hand over companies’ entire meeting, event and incentive travel portfolio. To be marketed as MaXvantage as strategic meetings managements, services include centralized sourcing, meeting planning, data analysis and consulting. |

CORPORATE GIFTS + REWARDS
A “suite” way to say thank you
We came across a cool promo idea this month: host a client function in a swanky space, then “give away” the event venue as a prize. Great idea, especially when it’s a space as exclusive as the 4,000-sq.-ft., three-storey luxury Penthouse suite atop the SoHo Metropolitan hotel in Toronto – not normally available for corporate events. Corporate guests of Vision 2000 Travel Group and host partner Metropolitan Hotels were invited to an evening cocktail event with a lure: At the end of the function, one lucky person was chosen to spend a night in the suite, with a limo dispatched home to fetch the spouse. |
